blackscale Scheme : I designed the Blackscale Scheme when I decided I wanted an all dark scheme with no frills or thrills. I wanted something I could tweek a little bit so that I wouldn't get bored with it, but at the same time, I didn't want bright colors or fancy designs. I wanted something I could have for every day use.
With that in mind, I came up with Blackscale. What I've basically done is take Apple's Platinum Look (better known as Apple Grayscale), and turned it inside out. What was once white is now black, what was black is now white. All lite colors were made dark, and dark colors made light. All of the highlight colors of Apple's Platinum Look are availible allowing you to slightly modify the look of the scheme. The blue folders are replaced with black ones, including the basic folder, the system folder, and the Apple menu items. The trash can is also black.
Blackscale lite : Same as above with the exception of no folders being included, and no trash can. The highlite colors are also missing, with the default set on silver.
The Cost : Nothing! I make these things for myself and for the fun of it. Feel free to use as you like. If you give this scheme away, please include the folder and all it's contents. If you distribute this scheme on a CD or with other collections, please let me know. I'd like to know where it ends up.
Conflicts Or bugs : Both Blackscale and Blackscale light were checked with Scheme Checker 1.0.1 and found to be bug free. I have also been using Blackscale on my computer (Apple Performa,Power Mac 6400/200,running OS8) for approximately 1 month with no problems. If you run Blackscale on Scheme Checker 1.0.1, it will tell you that there are 70 resources that may not be needed. These resources are for the highlight colors, and are needed. If you delete these resources, you will not be able to change highlight colors.
Notes : As stated above, to design this scheme, I basically took the Apple Grayscale theme designed by Greg Landweber and Arlo Rose and turned it inside out. I know some would feel this is a rip off, but it took me a lot of work to make this scheme turn out the way I wanted, and it took much more than simply changing a few colors. About the only thing not altered or redesigned in some way are the icons relating to the highlight colors, with silver being the only highlight color I altered. I tried not to stray to far away from the original scheme because, after all, it is called Blackscale, and a black version of Apple's platinum look was what I was after in the first place.
